​**In order to minimize gatherings of people as much as possible, the following areas will remain closed to the public: Café, Snack Stand and Giant Screen Theater. We will also not have special presentations, behind-the-scenes tours or scheduled animal feedings during Wave One of reopening. In compliance with public facility closures and due to social distancing measures, we will not be offering summer camps in 2020. In Wave One of reopening, other programs will not be offered at this time: S.T.E.A.M., Toddler Tuesdays, Field Trips, Playtime with Miss Jenny and Toddler Trek. More details will be announced as these programs become available.**

While our some of our programs are not currently being offered, we invite you to enjoy some creative, fun, and educational activities that we have created, and be sure to visit our social media accounts to stay up to date with your favorite Aquarium friends on Instagram and Facebook.

​​​​The Aquarium is temporarily closed to guests, to support efforts to slow or mitigate the spread of COVID-19. 

As communities continue to feel the effects of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we would like to share what we are doing to help.

FOR GUESTS:
We are temporarily closed to guests, in accordance with the City of Virginia Beach directive and the Governor of Virginia’s Executive Order Fifty-Three. Per this Executive Order, we will be closed until at least June 10, 2020 to guests.
Additionally, this means that the following events have been cancelled or postponed:
  • Summer Camp Registration Postponed to TBD
  • Member Appreciation Night on April 3 Postponed to TBD
  • Mermaid Mondays on April 6, 13, 20, 27 Postponed to TBD
  • Animal Enrichment Day on April 18 Postponed to TBD
  • Sensory Friendly Morning on April 19 Cancelled
  • Party for the Planet on April 22 Cancelled
  • Virginia Aquarium Golf Classic sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank, rescheduled to August 12, 2020 at Heron Ridge Golf Club
  • Sensible Seafood Fest presented by PNC, rescheduled to November 10, 2020

FOR MEMBERS:
We recognize the impact that our closure has on your membership. Because of that, we will adjust all memberships to compensate for the days that we are closed. There is no action required on your part. 

FOR PARENTS:
We understand the challenges that you will face in the coming months with schools being closed. While we cannot replace those learning opportunities, we are working to compile additional resources that you can use to help continue teaching your children at home. FOR THE COMMUNITY:
Your health and safety are top priorities for us, and we want to ensure that the Aquarium remains a safe facility for everywhen when we reopen. That’s why many of our Admin staff are working remotely, our Husbandry team is operating on an A Team and B Team staffing schedule, and we have closed common areas for communal use. Our housekeeping and sanitization efforts have been greatly expanded, and our teams are continuing to frequently disinfect often-touched surfaces to prevent the spread of germs. 

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Even though we are closed, our team continues to provide exceptional care for our animals. We depend on admissions and memberships to pay for these mission-critical operations, and our animal care operations do not stop due to the COVID-19 situation.
