***In compliance with public facility closures and due to social distancing measures, we are not able to offer our planned schedule of summer camps as we have previously offered. We are looking at innovative alternative opportunities for youth summer activities, and we will announce them as they are finalized. Until then, check out our Community Resources page or social media accounts to stay up to date with your favorite Aquarium friends.***

Ag​​es:  Camps are offered for ages 6-15.  To participate, a camper must meet the specified age requirement by the time a camp begins.

Activities:  Virginia Aquarium camps focus primarily on marine science, but also include other science and nature topics.  Camp activities are developed and conducted by the Aquarium's educators and emphasize experiential learning through animal interactions, outdoor investigations, and hands-on activities. See below for the different activities offered for each age-specific camp.

Registration by mail, phone, or in person:

  • Registration is currently POSTPONED for members and non-members.

  • Payment must accompany registration.​​

Camp Details:  After registration, you will receive camp-specific forms that must be completed and returned to the Aquarium no later than two weeks prior to camp. When camp forms have been returned, we will send you information on camp activities, check-in time, and location.

Seas And Trees

Saturday August 17 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

The Aquarium and YMCA JT's Camp Grom have teamed-up to create a unique, one-day camp for the entire family! Campers will take part in a special Aquarium tour complete with a behind-the-scenes peek before heading to YMCA JT's ​C​amp Grom for lunch and an afternoon of fun - kayaking, climbing the 50-foot Alpine tower, floating in the lazy river, fishing, and more!​​ Call us at (757) 385-0278​​ for more information or to register. Children must be at least 8 years old and​​ 48" tall to participate in behind the scenes activity.​

Discover the local wildlife as you explore Owls Creek and its surrounding habitats. Collect snails and crabs in the marsh, hike the forest to search for birds, insects, and signs of other wildlife. Meet some of the Virginia Aquarium's Animal Ambassadors.

​Your camper can create a volcano, mine for chocolate chips, and participate in many other fun experiments. This hands-on camp will show your little scientist that Geology really does rock!​

This Way To The Bay

Explore the diverse habitats and observe some of the animals that make the Chesapeake Bay a unique resource. Search for life in the Chesapeake Bay during excursions to the Eastern Shore and First Landing State Park. Kayak to explore a marsh, take a Dolphin Discoveries boat trip, and trawl for fish and invertebrates.

Fee: $300 members; $350 non-members

This summer, do the WAVE (Wander Across Virginia's Environment) to discover some of Virginia's unique wild places. Hunt for fossils on the York River, kayak the wetlands of the Eastern Shore, explore the​ southern swamp, and so much more.
Fee: $325 members; $375 non-members

Marine Explorers

Go behind the scenes to meet some of our most popular animals and the staff that care for them. Kayak in search of dolphins. Seine the bay and trawl the ocean for fish and invertebrates aboard Virginia Aquarium's Ocean Explorer research vessel.

Fishing For Fun

Ages 9-12: August 3-4

Age 13-15: August 20-21

Learn about the local game fish of Virginia Beach and why some are being protected. Put your "catch and release" skills to the test as we go fishing on a pier and aboard Virginia Aquarium's Ocean Explorer research vessel. Bring your fishing pole and we'll provide the bait.
Fee: $175 members; $200 non-members

Cool Catches

Ages 9-12: June 29-July 1

Age 13-15: August 17-19​​

Get wet and get going on your way to becoming an expert on local fish and invertebrates. Fine-tune your marine biology knowledge during daily collection trips, aquarium maintenance sessions, and hands-on explorations of marine habitats.
Fee: $200 members; $225 non-members​
