Wonders of Water

Search for aquatic animals, investigate watery habitats, and participate in hands-on explorations that reveal the magic of water and the adaptations needed to survive in it.

Reptiles and Amphibians

June 28-29 ; July 19-20
Some are smooth and slimy while others are dry and scaly. Come discover who slithers, who hops, and who swims. Learn to identify amphibians and reptiles through observation, hands-on activities, and live animal encounters.

Nature Rangers

Learn how to find animals as you explore Owls Creek and its surrounding habitats. Scoop for tadpoles in the freshwater pond, collect crabs in the marsh, and hike the maritime forest to search for birds, insects, and signs of other wildlife.

Yuck that's Gross

July 12-13; July 26-27

Do you know why turkey vultures projectile vomit or why snails produce slime? Find the answers to these questions and other gross facts through dissections, hands-on learning and live animal observation.

This Way to the Bay

July 23-27; August 6-10

Explore the diverse habitats and observe some of the animals that make the Chesapeake Bay a unique resource. Search for life in the Chesapeake Bay during excursions to the Eastern Shore and First Landing State Park. Kayak to explore a marsh, take a Dolphin Discoveries boat trip, and trawl for fish and invertebrates.

W.A.V.E.

This summer, do the WAVE (Wander Across Virginia's Environment) to discover some of Virginia's unique wild places. Search for turtles and frogs in a cypress swamp, hunt for fossils on the York River, and look for snakes in Back Bay.

Marine Explorers

Do you want to become a marine scientist? Meet aquarium staff and learn about the research they do on local animals. Take an introductory class of SCUBA. Kayak in search of dolphins. Seine the bay and trawl the ocean for fish and invertebrates aboard Virginia Aquarium's Ocean Explorer research vessel.

S.W.A.T. – Seals, Whales, and Turtles

Discover the amazing lives of air breathing marine animals. Meet harbor seals and their trainers, go look for dolphins with Aquarium experts aboard the Virginia Aquarium's Ocean Explorer research vessel, and attend a sea turtle feeding and training session.

Specialty Camps for Ages 9-15 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Fishing for Fun

Learn about the local game fish of Virginia Beach and why some are being protected. Put your "catch and release" skills to the test as we go fishing on a pier and aboard Virginia Aquarium's Ocean Explorer research vessel. Bring your fishing pole and we'll provide the bait.

Cool Catches

Sold Out: August 15-17
Get wet and get going on your way to becoming an expert on local fish and invertebrates. Fine-tune your marine biology knowledge during daily collection trips, aquarium maintenance sessions, and hands-on explorations of marine habitats.
