Using Aquarium Membership

Membership Cardholders

There is always a primary adult cardholder for each membership; this individual is the owner of the membership. An additional adult can be named as a secondary cardholder. Both named cardholders must be 18 years of age or older. The primary member’s mailing address and email address are associated with the membership, and all mailings, such as the membership package, member cards, renewal notices and the Virginia Aquarium Quarterly Magazine, are sent to this address. We only mail to one address per membership.

Membership Visits

Membership cards are non-transferable. Cards cannot be loaned for other individuals to use. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by at least one designated cardholder to use membership benefits, including admission. Designated member cardholders must provide a photo ID, such as a valid driver’s license, at check-in along with his/her membership card. If an individual cannot provide a valid photo ID, even if he/she presents a membership card, admission will be denied.

Members may check in at the Members’ Service Desk, Bay & Ocean Pavilion admission counter, or the Marsh Pavilion admission desk. Members receive a hand stamp rather than admission tickets. Members will receive printed tickets for National Geographic 3D Theater movies, Sea Adventure boat trips, and The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium.

Members can use the maximum allowable benefits, including admission benefits, once per day per membership, based on the membership level.

Changes to Memberships

The primary member is the only individual authorized to make changes to the membership. Changes can be made in person, by phone, or through email from the primary member’s email address. Secondary members may be changed only once during the membership year. The irreversible change is in effect until the renewal date. When a change is made, new cards are printed at no charge, and placed at the Members’ Service Desk “will call.” Great care and consideration should be given to who is designated as a secondary card holder. Ask yourself who will be using the membership the most frequently. Reprinted cards are not mailed.

Children

Children two years old and under are free and do not need to be covered by a membership. Children are not designated on memberships by name and must be accompanied by at least one designated cardholder to access membership benefits, including admission. Children are considered guests of designated cardholders. Children age three and up are considered an admission for your membership, so take this into account when purchasing a membership level.

Field Trips and Group Visits

Membership admission privileges may not be used in conjunction with field trips or group visits, due to associated programming costs and other expenses. Field trip and group visit activities and programming are pre-reserved. Individuals not included in paid group reservations risk being excluded from those activities due to space limits.

Tax Deductions

Portions of your membership may be tax deductible. Please contact your tax professional to determine tax deductibility.

Photography/Videography

As a visitor, you may be photographed and/or filmed. Such photography/videography may be used for educational, commercial, or promotional purposes. By purchasing a membership, you agree to hold harmless Virginia Aquarium & the City of Virginia Beach from any claim arising out of or pertaining to the use of your image or likeness for the above stated purposes.

Memberships are non-transferable, and non-refundable.

Memberships are not available as pro rata payments.
