The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team aids sea turtles that have been hooked by fishermen.

Even a minor injury, such as a simple hook in the mouth, can be problematic for sea turtles. And in some cases, radiographs have revealed fishing hooks deeper in the sea turtle’s digestive system than can be seen from a simple visual exam.

To help educate anglers to call the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team each time a sea turtle is hooked, we have partnered with 6 fishing piers:

Each rehabilitated sea turtle receives medical attention from the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team. The cost of the care for each sea turtle varies due to the length of time and the extent of care required. Costs range from $800 to $4,700 per sea turtle. As the number of sea turtles rehabilitated increases, so does our need for donations. Donate today!
