Welcome to the Foundation's Board of Trustees!
The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Foundation announced the appointment of two new members to the Foundation's Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2020. The Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization that supports the work of the Aquarium. The Chair, Sal DaBiero, announced that Buffy J. Barefoot and Mark Dreyfus have joined the Foundation Board of Trustees. "We are pleased to welcome our newest Trustees. Both bring a wealth of knowledge, business expertise, and passion for our mission. We are fortunate to have them leading by our side as we embark on the future of the Aquarium Foundation," said Mr. DaBiero.
Buffy J. Barefoot
Buffy Barefoot is the President of TowneBank Virginia Beach and has twenty-five years of experience in the banking industry. TowneBank has been a generous supporter of the Virginia Aquarium through business relationships and charitable support. The TowneBank Foundation gave $500,000 to the recently completed Capital Campaign.
She received her undergraduate degree and Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech. Her community involvement includes the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Neptune Festival, and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. Buffy and her husband live in Virginia Beach and have two grown children.
Mark Dreyfus is President of ECPI University, a regionally accredited career university consisting of 18 campuses in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, and online. Mark has held various positions at the University since 1982. The Dreyfus Family Foundation generously supported the recently completed Capital Campaign by underwriting a new jellyfish gallery.
He received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is on the board of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer and Trustee of Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation, Treasurer and Board Member of the Hampton Roads Alliance, Member of the Hampton Roads Business Roundtable, Board Member and former chair of the Career Education Colleges and Universities, Member of the Virginia Board of Workforce Development, and Board Member of the Virginia Career College Association. Mark and his family reside in Virginia Beach.
