Indonesian Volcanic Island
Page Content
Indonesia’s Flores Island represents a time when Virginia, and much of the world, was dominated by volcanic activity during the Precambrian period. Mount Rogers, Virginia’s tallest mountain, is the result of volcanic processes. There are Komodo dragons, the largest lizard in the world, and uniquely-colored Indonesian finches fluttering overhead in these galleries. A special viewing area allows young guests to crawl under the exhibit and pop up into an acrylic dome and see the animals close-up.
