Chesapeake Bay Touch Pool

As you progress through the Journey of Water, you’ll be able to do more than just look at fish and other animals. Representing the shallow waters around the famous Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the Chesapeake Bay Aquarium begins with an unforgettable touch pool experience. Docents explain anatomy and behavior of marine Hermit crabs (Pagurus species), Spider crabs (Libinia species), and Feather blennies (Hypsoblennius hentz). The curious can touch a Horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus), Forbes’ Sea Star (Asterias forbesi), or Whelk (Busycom species), and learn amazing facts about these seemingly ordinary sea creatures.
